When Margaret Morrell asked the question «What exactly happened at Turnberry Aerodrome?», she did not realise that this would lead to almost 20 years of research; corresponding with airmen, historians and researchers all over the world.
The local history and the poignant stories of the young men and women who trained there have been beautifully chronicled in her book, Turnberry Airfield. Furthermore, her research led to an additional 89 names being added to the Turnberry War Memorial.
Margaret was a well-known expert on the subject of Turnberry and a frequent speaker to local groups, clubs and schools bringing to life the stories of the airmen and finally bringing an answer to the question «What exactly happened at the Turnberry Aerodrome?».
Margaret was married to Tony and, together, they had three grown-up children, Edward, Douglas, and Jessica, and seven grandchildren. Margaret loved travelling, motorbikes and interior decor. At her heart, she was a researcher having traced her ancestral roots back through five centuries as well as bringing to life what can only be described as the seminal history of Turnberry Airfield.
Margaret Morrell passed away peacefully on the 28 October 2021.
